Sarah Broome
Vice President of Learning
Serving as a core member of LaFargue since 2021, Sarah leverages her extensive background in education and leadership to provide organizations with learner-centered development programs and educational formats that align both with individual learning styles and long-term business strategy.
Prior to teaming up with LaFargue, Sarah founded Thrive Academy, a pioneering residential school in Louisiana dedicated to empowering at-risk students. Over the course of more than a decade at the helm of Thrive, Broome's commitment to fostering a supportive educational environment led her to a new mission – ensuring greater accessibility to school-based Medicaid for institutions to enable them to access mental health services for students. Motivated by the challenges she faced in implementing the program at her school, Broome sought to make a broader impact.
In 2021, Broome spearheaded efforts in Louisiana to enhance the effectiveness of school-based Medicaid, leveraging ESSER funds. During her intensive 8-month engagement with the Department of Education, her impactful contributions included the establishment of permanent positions at both LDOE (the SEA) and LDH (the Medicaid agency) to bolster the program. Broome successfully revitalized communication between these two crucial agencies, catalyzing a $7 million ESSER-funded initiative. This initiative not only aimed to augment mental health professionals in schools but also focused on billing Medicaid for these essential services. Additionally, she played a pivotal role in creating a comprehensive school-based Medicaid resource library.
Following her impactful tenure in Louisiana, Broome broadened her horizons to a national scale. Her recent endeavors include penning the insightful "Office of the Inspector General School-Based Medicaid Reports: A Consolidated Review" and embarking on the ambitious project of establishing a National School-based Medicaid Resource Library.
In 2022, Broome was honored as a Schmidt Innovation Fellow for her dedication and innovative contributions throughout her professional career. Through her fellowship, she channels her expertise to assist schools and states across the country in accessing Medicaid funding, thereby enabling them to provide crucial health services for students. Broome's unwavering commitment continues to shape the landscape of education and healthcare, creating lasting positive change for the benefit of students nationwide.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sarah enjoys the live music and scenery of the DC Metro area.
